The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) Programme invites Yemeni nationals to apply for the following volunteering position with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)
Post Title: Community Services Assistant
Location: Sana’a
Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Community Services Officer the UN Volunteer will be required to perform the following duties:
• Work in a team environment with the Community Services Unit, including monitoring and reporting on all aspects of the Unit’s work plan;
• Liaises with the staff of operational (implementing partners to ensure that the necessary services are reaching the refugees and asylum seekers and follow up.
• Provide counseling services to refugees/asylum seekers presenting themselves at the office, make recommendations and follow up to make sure their cases were dealt with properly.
• Ensure that referral to other agencies and services corresponds to the genuine needs of the persons of concern seeking UNHCR assistance and to the guidelines and procedures agreed with the agencies concerned;
• Maintain comprehensive records of individual cases received, counseling services provided and recommendations made-including referrals;
• Draft reports on incidents involving individual cases;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
Qualifications:
• Completion of the Secondary School with post secondary training/certificate in social work, community services or relevant work experience in duties similar to the above terms of reference.
• Experience (at least 2 years) working in the humanitarian field, particularly with migrant and refugee populations in essential;
• Experience dealing with vulnerable groups, including unaccompanied minors;
• Excellent interviewing skills and counseling experience is essential;
• Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, e-mail, Internet research tools is required.
• Language Skills: Fluent written and spoken Arabic and English is essential.
