Location: Based in Sana’a with travel to IMC Yemen field sites

Context and Background
International Medical Corps is anticipating funding for an emergency assistance project that will start in January. Through the Emergency Assistance to Vulnerable Populations in Yemen project, IMC will address health concerns and immediate malnutrition as well as underlying causes. Integration of health services and nutrition and hygiene interventions will be addressed in order to achieve maximum impact. Health activities will focus on building the capacity of the primary health care system to provide sustainable maternal and child health services as well as institutionalizing the WHO program on Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI). Nutrition sector activities will focus on implementing a community based management of acute malnutrition program that includes the establishment of stabilization centers, outpatient therapeutic programs, management of moderate acute malnutrition, and community mobilization. WASH sector activities will focus on hygiene promotion, and health promotion/prevention for reduced transmission of major communicable diseases.
Primary Responsibilities of this position:
To support IMC-Yemen program improve the quality of maternal and child health care at the household and primary care levels through reequipping of health facilities and training of health providers and community health workers.
Specific Duties:
• Oversee/conduct a rapid facility assessment in coordination with the MOH followed by a more comprehensive technical health assessment to determine priority activities.
• Identify needs for professional training of national partners related to PHC service provision and assist in training provision.
• Oversee/conduct comprehensive training programs in Maternal and Child Health, Minimal Initial Service Package for Reproductive Health and Integrated Management of Childhood Illness that have been customized for the Yemen context and delivered to PHC providers. Ensure highest quality PHC provision of health services including nutrition screening appropriate supplementation of vitamin A and ORS, de-worming TT and outreach immunization campaigns
• Supervise the development and distribution of culturally appropriate IEC/BCC materials including MCH booklets, child health booklets and high quality posters to address a wide variety of health issues
• Oversee/conduct a public health education campaign to inform the target populations of key messages surrounding maternal and child health
• Provide equipment and supply packages for each of 12 identified clinics
• Any additional duties as requested by the supervisor
Technical Support:
• Modify/update forms/tracking system/data collection tools to ensure proper indicators reporting for PHC activities as needed.
• Assist the Logistics Department in procurement of drug/medical supply/medical equipment by providing specification for requested items.
• Participate in elaborating of program monitoring and evaluation framework.
Program Management:
• Provide a supervisory role for the IMC program partners implementing PHC assistance program in Sana’a and rural areas of Yemen.
• Ensure that partner organization provides PHC services in accordance with national and international standards including clinical guidelines, essential drug list, standard equipment, etc.
• Provide regular supervision of supported clinics including data collection/records of beneficiaries and program activities, as well as timely implementation and reaching targets according to program objectives.
• Conduct regular meetings with national partners on program update and progress and make necessary adjustment to program implementation plan.
• Provide regular updates and reports to senior management staff as required; contribute to donor reports and internal IMC reports as required.
• Organize and conduct joint multifunctional team monitoring visits.
• Ensure linkages and integration of community mobilization activities and clinic services.
• Maintain program files.
Program Coordination:
• Coordinate with MOH
• Coordination meeting with national partners.
• Coordinate PHC service activities with IMC senior staff.
• Participate in coordination meetings with international and national organizations involved in implementation of PHC projects.
Qualifications:
• Graduate degree in nursing, public health, or medicine with at least 5 years work experience after graduation
• Experience conducting outreach activities and training
• Strong knowledge of English
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office and other relevant software
• Previous experience with NGOs and or managerial experience is an advantage
• Satisfactory recommendation from a previous supervisor on job performance
