The Job

JOB TITLE : Mobile team - Midwife

LOCATION: Al Madaribah district, Lahj governorate

REPORTING TO: Reproductive Health Officer

OVERALL PURPOSE

Provision of RH services as ANC, PNC and FP for woman in childbearing age, plus nutrition treatment to PLWs including IYCF and breastfeeding support

PROJECT OVERVIEW

To improve access to essential health and nutrition services to displaced population and acutely vulnerable communities in Yemen, with focus on Lahj governorate

FUNCTIONAL LINKS

INTERNAL: Reproductive Health Officer, Project Manager, Project Officers, Project Assistants

EXTERNAL: Community leaders, IDP and host community families, Community Health Volunteers, and DHO

Responsibilities:

GENERAL TASKS  

  • Uphold the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence
  • Respect the Medair values at all times, both within and outside of working hours
  • Know, understand, and comply with Medair internal policies and procedures
  • Follow the Medair Security Plan and other relates policies and SOPs
  • Adhere to Medair Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) handbook and regulations
  • Respect the patient’s privacy and confidentiality

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Screen every pregnant or lactating mother by using MUAC and if required admit the woman into TSFP program according to the CMAM protocol
  • Administer routine medication according to CMAM protocol and give health education message before handing out the food and treatment
  • End of each week make a list of non-attendees and send message to CHV to follow up the woman at home
  • Store commodities save and protected from direct sunlight
  • Discharge PLWs according to the protocol and minimum length of stay, fill all required paperwork
  • Provide expanding program immunization services through routine and booster vaccination to targeted PLWs
  • Provide antenatal, post-natal and new-born consultations according to protocol
  • Take vital signs and examine every new-born and woman carefully
  • Prescribe required medication and explain how to administer the drugs for mothers and new-borns
  • Assist pregnant woman in a possible delivery and/or refer critical cases to the next level of care
  • After a delivery, examine every new-born and woman carefully before they are sent home and counsel about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding
  • Hand out clean delivery kits and mossi nets according to Medair’s protocol and fill distribution forms accordingly
  • Provide family planning methods including condoms and pills for lactating mothers
  • Provide IYCF counselling to every lactating woman
  • Fill all required registers and paperwork carefully
  • Keep hygiene rules at any time, wash your hands after each patient and use alcohol hand rub, wear a face mask during all consultations
  • Send weekly pictures of the register and the distribution lists to the Medair office and fill monthly reports according to requirements of DHO and Medair
  • Any other duties as assigned by the program team.

Diploma in Midwifery

IYCF and EmONC training

WORK EXPERIENCE

2+ years of relevant work experience

Experience in working as part of a mobile team

Working experience with an NGO

WORK CONDITIONS

Position will be based in the Al Madaribah district.

Regular working hours will be 08:00 to 16:30 with 30 minutes for lunch but may require flexibility as the work dictates.

SALARY: According to Medair standard salary scale

JOB COMMITMENT

TYPE OF CONTRACT: Fixed Term Contract

PLANNED START DATE: June 2021

TRAINING: As required

DURATION OF COMMITMENT: 6 Month
